Tomorrow; the magical place when most things start to happen. Sounds familiar? You’re certainly not the only one. Fortunately, there are many things you can easily change to stop procrastinating. Are you wondering how to be more productive? Here are some great tips!
How should you start?
This article will help you find barriers and solutions to help you be more productive. We designed 6 simple steps on how to be more productive.
How do these steps work?
Your productivity starts simply by changing your thoughts, routine or habits. It seems like a handful, but honestly it doesn’t take much to be productive. You just have to start. See these 6 steps to see how.
1. Get in touch with yourself
Only you know yourself enough to know what conditions you need to be productive. The most common mistake people make is to jump right into work and decide they will do everything starting right now! They soon find themselves exhausted but still didn’t manage to complete the tasks.
Take a moment and think about your routines and moods. Are you a morning person? Which part of the day is your favorite to just relax and enjoy? Which part of your month is the busiest? Do you need free weekends or do you rather work every day but fewer hours?
Recognize your patterns. See what habits you can change and which rigid structures you need to meet. For example, if you procrastinate in the morning simply because you don’t know what else to do, try to start your day with an activity you like to do most. But if you are not a morning person and work will only frustrate you, take this part of the day off, and plan your work for later.
Of course, some tasks and work are not so flexible and you have to adjust. Step 5 and 6 will help you with that.
2. Make a list
Write down the things you want or need to do. Make a priority list with dates to stay organized.
If you are a visual person, you can get a nicely designed planner, as it adds extra motivation to your planning.
When you have everything in one plasce and in the right order, this will help you visualise and decide where to start and actually start.
3. Focus on one task
When you organized your list, stick to it! Try to focus on one task at a time. If you have a busy schedule and have to do a few things simultaneously, make a timetable. Don’t start to multi-task, as you will become frustrated and overwhelmed. This can only lead to losing motivation and productivity with that.
By focusing on a task, it also means to stay away from distractions. Put away your phone, social media and other things that catch your attention.
The best suggestion is to start and finish one task, before moving to another, or at least finish one part of the task. This leads us to the next step.
4. Make small steps
If you have smaller tasks to do, priority list will do. But if you have long-term tasks, we recommend you to plan small steps to your finish line. This will make your task more manageable. If you focus on a long-term goal, you can get impatient and lose interest. But, with smaller steps, you will see partial results during the process, which will motivate you to continue with your productivity.
Write down steps with smaller goals and stick to the plan!
5. Challenge yourself
When you have so much to do but you feel like laying on your couch, eating popcorn and watching Netflix, challenge yourself! Take this opportunity to prove to yourself how strong you are. You can do whatever and whenever you decide to. The first step will hurt physically and mentally, but in a few moments, you will feel like a superhero.
Stop standing in your own way and change your way thinking. You can see one task as a burden or as an opportunity to learn or do something productive. It’s all about perspective. The satisfaction of productivity is far greater than reaching the same goal after procrastinating for days or even weeks.
The key is to stop waiting to feel like doing something, because those moments are not in your favor. Your will is, though. Decide, plan, do! This is how productivity works and comes naturally over time.
6. Take care of yourself
Last but not least, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Push yourself out of your comfort zone, but mind your needs. Take breaks and don’t forget to plan fun and relaxing activities, not just work. Never overwork yourself! This is how you learn to stop when you’re tired, instead of quitting.
To be as productive as you can be, make good lifestyle choices. For example, get a balanced diet, get enough sleep, exercise regularly and take a time for yourself.
A balanced diet should do the trick, but you can add supplements to boost your brain. Magnesium, omega 3, l-theanine, are some that are great for productivity. However, avoid the most obvious ones – coffee and energy drinks. It will only last for a short period of time and make you even more tired and unproductive later.
If you follow these steps on how to be more productive, you will not only improve your productivity but also make some positive lifestyle changes. As these changes will make you more energized, healthy and relaxed, your productivity levels will become higher by itself. It’s a healthy and beneficial circle. You win with being productive, and you win some more with feeling better!
